This beautiful theater is located in the Carriage Hills area west of Boulder. The design: Clean, contemporary, and classy. The front screen wall is painted flat black for optimum video performance. The other three walls are an acoustically tuned fabric covering from Owens Corning. All trim and custom cabinets are hard maple with a natural finish.
The intention was to create a high-performance theater that would be equally well suited for enjoying movies, concert videos, or sports (especially New England Patriots games). Or for listening to music, including CD's or hi-resolution DVD-Audio discs. Listen Up Audio Video of Boulder recommended an all-Meridian system for the audio and a Sony CRT projector and Stewart screen for the video.
The owner is also an avid reader and wanted the theater to double as a reading/listening room. Two sets of three tight-focus low-voltage beams were installed in an arc above the main seating area to perfectly highlight the reading material.
A built-in custom maple cabinet provides media storage with rollout trays in the left side cabinet along with the open bookcase on the right for an extensive novel collection. The gorgeous left channel speaker, with a high-gloss black lacquer piano finish, is made by Meridian-Audio. From the Meridian website:
"The DSP8000, our new reference model, is an unmatched technical tour de force comprising eight custom drivers, five power amplifiers, three digital crossovers, three D/A converters, and advanced distortion-cancelling computers - all within that elegant exterior. Three 150W and two 100W power amplifiers per speaker. All processing is performed upsampled in twin 100MHz digital signal processors (DSPs). DSP8000 uses Meridian's memory-based dejittering system for ultimate clarity."
